Rev. Hershel Owen, age 84, of Gordo, AL, passed away Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at his residence. Funeral services will be 11 A.M. Saturday February 18, 2023 at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Owen officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will follow the service at the church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and great grandson, John Cody Cummings.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Kaye Hayes Owen; daughter, Angela Lawson (Jim) ; sons, Jeff Owen, Mike Owen (Lori), and Mark Owen; sister, Earline Hamilton (Paul); nine grandchildren, Brent Lawson, Kayci Cummings, Sydney Owen, Parker Owen, Mason Owen, Landon Owen, Haven Owen, Carter Owen, and Caleb Owen; and five great grandchildren, Brayden Cummings, Jase Cummings, Mattie Lawson, Caden Lawson, and Kinsley Lawson.
Hershel was born December 23, 1938 in Burnwell, AL to the late Cecil Owen and Sadie Gallimore Owen. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, a retired banker, and a faithful minster of the gospel for over 60 years, 53 of them served at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church and Emmanuel Baptist Church in Gordo, AL, but he was a pastor to all.
Pallbearers will be Brent Lawson, Mason Owen, Landon Owen, Carter Owen, Caleb Owen, and Parker Owen.
Honorary pallbearers will be all of his pastor friends he met throughout his many years of ministry.
