Obituary

ALICEVILLE | Hubert Earl Winston, age 69 of Aliceville, Ala., passed away on May 10, 2014 at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at Aliceville First Baptist Church with Rev. Charlie Wilson and Rev. Bert Noland officiating and Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Burial will follow at Magnolia Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 12, 2014 at Dogwood Chapel, 200 5th Street NE in Aliceville. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to service at the church.
Hubert was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Irene Blakney; his brother, Tommy Winston; and his grandson, Jeremy Sultzbach.
He is survived by his wife, Joan Middleton Winston; daughter, Dawn Winston Gates Howell (Jeff); son, Keith Winston (Nikki); sister, Bertie Fason Phillips; his grandchildren, Jessica, Erica, Clay, Kayla, Kendall and Taylor Gates, Jarrett and Riley Winston, Noah and Madeleine Howell, Justin Williams (Christy) and Brooklyn and MacKenzey Moore; and a host of nieces and nephews and friends.
Mr. Winston was born August 15, 1944 in Benevola community of Pickens County, Alabama to the late John Thomas Winston and Effie Mae Wilson Winston. He was a member of Aliceville First Baptist Church, a retired employee with Omnova in Columbus, Miss. with 40 years of service and a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. An amazing husband, father, ""Daddy Hubert"" and friend, he always thought of everyone before himself and was a friend to everybody. We will always remember his fresh tomatoes from the garden, wonderful breakfasts and the tenderloin and ribs he cooked on the smoker.
Pallbearers will be Clay Gates, Jarrett Winston, Riley Winston, Noah Howell, Braydan Bateman and Jamie Harris.
Honorary Pallbearers are Sonny Noland, Larry Knight, Wayne Eves, Boyd Hill, Ronnie Cochrane, Leroy Holiday, Butch Reed, Martha's Ministry, Men's Fellowship Class and wives, Lewis & Faye Manderson Cancer Center, medical and radiation doctors, nurses and staff, MICU- Tammy Carnes, Pickens County Home Health- Kathy, Julia, and Alex, former co-workers of Omnova, Dr. Dale Robbins and staff, and Bobby Bell.
