GORDO - James Boyd Beams, Sr., age 89, of Gordo, Ala., died June 1, 2018 at DCH Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, June 4, 2018, at New Hope Methodist Church with Rev. Woody Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be from 6 – 8 p.m. tonight, Sunday, June 3, 2018, at Skelton Funeral Home.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Albert "Snooks" Beams and Maurice Beams; and two sisters, Jenny Crow and Marjorie Hickman.
Survivors include his very special friend, Sue Shirley; his sons, James Boyd "Jimmy" Beams, Jr. and wife, Regina of Gordo and Randall Freeman Beams of Stapleton, Ala.; grandchildren, Dustin Beams (Hannah), Bergandy Kizziah (Tiler) and Terry Parks (Ashley).
Mr. Beams was born December 3, 1928 in Gordo, Alabama to the late Freeman Beams and Tavie Plowman Beams. He was a retired riverboat Captain for Parker Towing Company in Tuscaloosa, Ala., a long time farmer and a veteran of the United States Army.
Pallbearers will be Dwayne Beams, Darwin Beams, Robert Stone, Dustin Beams, Daniel Jennings and Mark Jennings.
