James Roland Hammond, age 86, of Fayette AL died June 14, 2026 at his residence. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, June 17, 2026 at Skelton Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Blake Thompson directing. Burial will be in Arbor Springs Baptist Church Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be one hour prior and immediately following the service at the funeral home.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Cora Bailey, Sarah Brownlee, Lillian Hollinger, June Price, Joan Wilson, John Hammond, Pearl Hall and Evan Hammond.

Survivors include his wife, Kay Hammond, daughter, Daphne Hammond Self and husband, Scot; son, Eric Hammond and two grandchildren, Tristan Self and Juniper Self.

Roland was born September 21,1939 in Palmetto, Alabama to the late Joe William Hammond and Mary Louvenia Moore Hammond. He was a member of Unity Grove Church and a retired history professor at Bevil State Community College.

Pallbearers will be Tristan Self, Michael Orr, Mark Stough, Greg Tubbs, Chris Tubbs and Joe Hammond.
