August 17, 1951 – February 15, 2024
James Mattson Marler, Jr., age 72, of Reform, AL passed away February 15, 2024 at Hospice of West Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Monday, February 19, 2024 at Skelton Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Trey Reece, Rev. Calvin Hall and Bobby Cowart officiating. A Eulogy will be delivered by Dee Dee Davis. Burial will be Bethel Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be from 6 - 8 pm Sunday, February 18, 2024 at the funeral home.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Marler; his parents and sister-in-law, Luvenia Ferguson.
Survivors include his son, Chad Marler and wife, Christie of Reform; sister, Deloris "Dee Dee" Marler Davis and husband, Terry of Sylacauga; grandchildren, Brandie Nicole Marler and Kacie Morgan Marler; two great-grandchildren, Kaelynne Reign Ellis and Taedyn A'Mir Hollis and brothers-in-law, John "Junior" Skelton, Jerre Skelton (Geraldine), Roy Lee Skelton and Marvin Ferguson.
James was born August 17, 1951 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to the late James Mattson Marler, Sr and Marie Martin Marler. He was a well-known auto mechanic in Pickens County and a member of the Pickens County Rescue Squad for over 30 years.
Pallbearers are Bobby Cowart, Buddy Ammons, Don Cameron, Bryan Gault, Dennis Pugh and Paul Shaw. Honorary Pallbearers are past and present members of the Pickens County Rescue Squad, Hospice of West Alabama and Enhabit Home Health.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to Ethelsville Church of God Building Fund, 3896 County Road 75, Ethelsville, Al 35461.
