Obituary

Rev. James Sebron Moss, age 82, of Gordo, AL passed away October 22, 2023 at his residence.  Funeral services will be11:00 am Wednesday, October 25, 2023 at Skelton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Trull and Rev. Jordan Lollar officiating.  Burial will be in Greenhill Memorial Gardens with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing.  Visitation will be immediately following the service at the funeral home.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Janice Wilson Moss; second wife, Eleanor House Moss; his parents; brothers, Brantley, Wendell and Newell Moss and sister, Jamelle Moss Sutton.
Survivors include his wife, Jewel McCool Moss of Gordo; sons, Daryl Moss (Lynn) of Gordo, Barry Moss (Julie) of Auburn; stepson, Dell McCool of Fayette; stepdaughters, Janesa Evans (Kip) of Gordo and Melinda Lambert (Rickey) of Reform; brothers, John Moss (Sherry) of Reform and Malcolm Moss (Wanda) of Gordo; brother-in-law, Jerry Sutton of Gordo; sisters-in-law, Annie Sue Moss of Gordo and Melba Moss of Gordo; grandchildren, Emily Moss of Northport and Lane Moss (Kerri) of Fosters; step-grandchildren, Kristen Plowman (Jacoby) of Reform, Allison Richardson (Vance) of Gordo, Lance Lambert (Kristin) of West Point, MS, Kasey Trull (Justin) of Gordo, Chad Evans of Gordo, Logan McCool (Madi) of Fayette and Josh McCool (Samantha) of Birmingham; 10 step great-grandchildren and his very own great-grandchild that is due in April 2024.
James was born January 3, 1941 in Gordo, Alabama to the late William Harold Moss and Vista Ligon Moss. He graduated from Gordo High School in 1959 then worked at Gulf States Paper Mill for 17 years until its closure.  He worked a couple of jobs to get his family through some hard times then was able to find a job at Carpenter Shirley Lumber Company where he was taught the trade of saw filing.  James worked at Noland Lumber Company and Newton Lumber Company before retiring.
His greatest passion was working for and serving the Lord. James served as deacon, Sunday School teacher, song leader and in various committees.  He was a charter member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Gordo but was a member of Double Branch "Old Corrs" Baptist Church at the time of his death.  Later in life James surrendered to the call to preach.  He served as Pastor at Springhill Baptist in Pickensville, Caines Ridge Baptist in Fayette, Double Branch "Old Corrs" Baptist in Gordo and New Harmony Baptist in Gordo. He served as interim and filled in when asked at several other churches.  He did these faithfully until his health wouldn't allow it.
Pallbearers will be Lane Moss, Garth Moss, Harold Moss, Wayne Moss, Brannon Moss, Scott Sutton, Logan McCool, Chad Evans, Lance Lambert and Tammy Lollar.
The family would like to give a specials thanks to Enhabit Hospice for the care given to him over the past several months.  Thanks to Tammy Conley, Katelyn Reynolds, Sheila White and Chasity Tingle for their special care and also to Chaplain John Warren for the spiritual needs. Also to Encompass and Enhabit Healthcare nurses, Lisa Pate and Kathy Taylor who cared for him since 2018.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the Pickens Baptist Association, P.O. Box 206, Carrollton, AL 35447 or to a favorite charity.
