Obituary

ALICEVILLE | James Porter "Shug" Henders, I, age 88, of Aliceville, died October 19, 2014, at Sansing Country Home. Graveside Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 22, 2014, at Hebron United Methodist Church Cemetery. A Memorial Service will follow at 11 a.m. after the graveside service in the church sanctuary with Rev. Tim Alexander officiating and Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. The family will receive friends after the memorial service at the church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Elma Jo Emerson; and brothers, Bill Henders, Albert Henders and Walter "Pistol" Henders.
Survivors include his wife, Lelia Duke Henders of Aliceville, Ala.; daughter, Tracy Henders of Peach Tree City, Ga.; sons, Jim Henders of Dancy, Ala. and Duke Henders (Kami) of Gordo, Ala.; sister, Nellie Mitchell of Chipley, Fla.; sister-in-law, Kathryn Henders of Chipley, Fla.; and five grandchildren, Kaleigh Henders, Kyler Henders, Kaci Henders, Olivia Henders and Jackson McCurry.
Mr. Henders was born May 21, 1926 in Dancy, Alabama to the late Fred W. Henders and Celia Smith Henders. He was a member of Hebron United Methodist Church, a retired employee of Huyck Felt Company and a U.S. Army veteran.
Honorary pallbearers are Kyler Henders, Donald Powell, Louis McBride, Ken Bailey, Ted Ezelle, Tommy Rogers, Joe Joseph, Jimmy McBride, Fred Henders, Hospice of West Alabama, members of Hebron United Methodist Church, Clay and Floree Sansing, Sharon Prude and Katisha Colvin of VA Medical Foster Home and Shug's little buddy, Braden Sansing.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Hospice of West Alabama, 3851 Loop Road, Tuscaloosa, AL 35404.
