James Russell Shaw, age 85, of Gordo, AL passed away Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at Noland Hospital in Tuscaloosa. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Monday, January 4, 2021 at Calvary Baptist Church, 1121 Paul W. Bryant Drive, Tuscaloosa, AL 35401. A private graveside service will be held in Memory Hill Gardens in Tuscaloosa with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Due to COVID-19, there will be no visitation service.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Katie Byars Shaw; stepson, Thomas Joel Noble; his parents; four sisters, Mattie S. Timmerman, Nettie s. Brown, Tommie S. Miller and Inez S. Moilan and two brothers, William Rebel Shaw and Joseph Bernard Shaw.
James is survived by his daughter, Robin Elmore and husband, Charles; his sister, Ernestine McCrary; six grandchildren, Carly Elmore Sanders, Scott Noble, Wayne Noble, Zach Noble, Jessica Noble Hill and Lana Noble Wheat; nine great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
James was born February 22, 1935 in Cuba, Alabama to the late Evan Calvin Shaw and Dorcas Irene Walker Shaw. He was a veteran of the United States Army, worked at Gulf States Paper Mill for several years and owned and operated Reform Processing Plant before retiring.
James was a livestock buyer and enjoyed raising beef cattle and farming. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Tuscaloosa and loved spending time with family and friends.
Pallbearers will be Scott Noble, Wayne Noble, Zach Noble, Andrew Sanders, Dennis Byars and Rodney Hallman.
Honorary Pallbearers are Elmore Center United Methodist Church and members of Keystone Men's Sunday School Class of Calvary Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
