Obituary

James Arnold Sullivan, age 80, of Gordo, AL died March 2, 2023 at DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa. Funeral services will be 3:00 pm Monday, March 6, 2023 at Dunns Creek Baptist Church in Echola with Bro. Thomas Wilson and Bro. Dan Turman officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Sullivan and Pauline Lancaster Sullivan Mullenix.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Tootsie Sullivan; his children, Darren Sullivan, Sherri Lunceford (Rodney), Rhonda Christian and Brian Sullivan; grandchildren, Brianna Sullivan, Brittani Sullivan, Hannah Sullivan, Landon Lunceford, Luke Lunceford, Lucy Lunceford and Raegan Christian; great-grandchildren, Kayleigh Sullivan, Bubba Channell, Jared Channell and Bryant Channell; his siblings, Polly Bailey (Larry), Peggy Mullenix (Roy), Joyce Barrett (Dennis), Barbara Shirley (Dennis) and Gee Gee Oswalt and sisters-in-law, Jet Holemon and Anglyn Holloway.
Arnold was born February 4, 1943 in Echola, Alabama. He was a member of Dunns Creek Baptist Church and a sawyer for Sullivan Lumber Company for over 30 years. Arnold was well known for his meticulous garden. He always planted extra so he could give some away. He plowed with his horse for years because it would make straighter rows than a tractor.
He enjoyed being a Pop and sharing his love of horses, gardening, walks in the woods, riding 4-wheelers, fishing and hunting with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Arnold also loved watching old westerns over and over He will be greatly missed, especially by them.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Holloway, Hunter Holloway, Steve Jones, Tony Robertson, Wayne Sullivan, Michael Barrett and Josh Shirley.
Honorary Pallbearers are Rod Sullivan and employees of Sullivan Lumber Company, his many friends in the Echola and Brownville communities and in Gordo. To all of the great doctors, nurses and therapists that gave him such wonderful care while he was in DCH MICU, your love and compassion will not be forgotten. A special thank you to the coworkers of the kids and grandkids for their support of our family in allowing them to spend extra time with him.
