ALICEVILLE - Jean Wood Martin, age 98, of Aliceville, Ala., passed away peacefully at her home on December 16, 2017. Services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 18, 2017, at Aliceville First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Thomas G. Kay, Jr. officiating. A private burial will be held at Franconia-Oak Grove Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. The family will receive friends immediately following service in the church sanctuary.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband of 37 years, W. C. ""Bill"" Martin. Their love and devotion for each other was evident throughout their life together. Her first husband: Ector Lane Bagwell of Fayette and her second husband: J. C Jacobs of Scottsboro.
Survivors include her loving sister, Caroline Wood Alford; devoted nieces, Jean Elizabeth Alford Hayes (Tim) and Carol Ann Owen (Gary) and nephews: Jimmy Alford and Alan Alford (Kathy);
Bill's children: Rebecca Martin Sanders (Donny), Mary Louise Martin Noland (Milton) and Susan Martin; Second husband J. C. Jacobs' children: John Jacobs (Patricia), Grady Jacobs (Kathy), Jerdan Swingle (Hugh) and Betsy Freeman; and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Jean was born August 11, 1919 in Birmingham, Alabama to the late Eugene Herbert Wood and Nina Ligon Wood. She attended Sullins College in Bristol, Va. and graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in Home Economics.
She loved to travel the world with her devoted husband, Bill. She was always a very gracious and generous hostess who loved entertaining in her home.
Jean was a member of Aliceville First Presbyterian Church and a loved and well known resident of Pickens County.
The family would like to thank Amedisys Hospice and nurse, Nickie Rivas, caregivers, Val Wilkins, Sheresa Woods, Cathy Hinton, Sandra Billups and special friend, Doris Jarrells.
