GORDO | Jeff Wilson Mitchell, age 83, of Gordo, died December 29, 2015, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, January 2, 2016, at Skelton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Hershel Owen and Rev. Joey Karr officiating. Burial will follow in Center Springs Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be one hour prior and immediately following service at the funeral home. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Molcy Cork and Nancy Nichols.Survivors include his wife, Bennie Byars Mitchell of Gordo, Ala.; daughter, Bridgette Mitchell Powell of Gordo, Ala.; two grandchildren, Brooke Lang (Brad) and Jordan Powell (Haleigh); and two great-grandchildren, Brayden and Gabby.Mr. Mitchell was born July 6, 1932 in Kennedy, Alabama to the late Roy Mitchell and Lucille Johnson Mitchell. He was a member of Elmore Center United Methodist Church, a retired insurance agent for Liberty National Life and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force."Pop" was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He always loved being with his great grandson, Brayden and great granddaughter, Gabby. Pallbearers are Sonny Cork, Todd Hall, Tristan Hall, Dallas Howell, Ben Fair, Tyler Fair, Raymond Housel, Matt Housel, Mark Comerford, Billy Byars, Tim Garner, Daniel Garner, Jonathan Plott, Hunter Plott, Jarrod Duffy, Dexter Black and Craig Perrigin. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Elmore Center United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Center Springs Cemetery, 2710 County Road 21, Gordo, Ala. 35466.
