Alan Broome officiating. Burial will be in Bethesda Cemetery in Gordo with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Jerry was born in Fayette, AL to James Fred and Jewel Edna Clark. He grew up in Fayette and earned Bachelor's and Master's degrees at Auburn University. Later, he attended Mississippi State earning a Specialist degree and became a County Agent for the Auburn Cooperative Extension Service for Walker County and then Greene County—where he faithfully served 31 years. He was married to Linda Maughan of Benevola, AL, for 52 years. They attended many state and national extension conventions with Alabama Association of County Agricultural Agents and Specialist. After retirement and raising children, they enjoyed traveling with the LLL Club where they loved encountering new adventures and meeting new people. Jerry was very active in Extension work, activities, and community organizations. As an avid community activist, he shared his gifts and talents by serving on various local boards. Jerry helped initiate and oversee the first class of Leadership Greene County and was very instrumental in the restoration of the Greene County Courthouse in the 1990s. Organizations he belonged to in Greene County were 23 Circle, Lion's Club, Rotary Club, President of the Chamber of Commerce, 911 Board Chairman and member, treasurer of Greene County Cattleman's Association for many years, treasurer of Eutaw United Methodist Church for 18 years, and a member of the ALFA board for several years. Throughout his career and service to the community, Jerry received dozens of awards and recognition on a city and state level for his faithful service. In addition to ongoing community involvement after retirement from Auburn University, he worked for over 10 years with the U.S. Department of Agriculture National Agricultural Statistics Services. This opportunity allowed him to continue to serve and be actively involved with the farmers of Greene County and surrounding counties. Building and establishing relationships has always been very important to him. After his second retirement, he remained actively involved with various community organizations. He used his free time to participate in a professional woodworking class and continued to develop his carpentry and construction skills. Having always been mechanically minded, retirement allowed him the time to share his ingenuity with his children and grandchildren. With the gifts of construction, resourcefulness and originality, he built the 2 homes his family still enjoy today and assisted his father and son with building their homes. Jerry has always enjoyed spending time on Smith Lake with his wife, children and grandchildren. Jerry was a man of honesty, integrity and excellent work ethic. He led by example, was the first to lend a helping hand, faithful to share his gifts and talents with others and loved people with all of his heart. Jerry never met a stranger and will be remembered for his joyful laugh, infectious smile, resilient friendly disposition, and outgoing personality. Jerry's legacy will indeed continue through his children and grandchildren for generations to come.
