GORDO – Joan Inez Abston, age 83, of Gordo, Ala., died January 9, 2017, at Hospice of West Alabama. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, January 13, 2017, at Forest Baptist Church with Rev. Terry Billings officiating. Burial will follow in Bethesda Presbyterian Church Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be one hour prior and immediately following the service at the church.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Lawrence, W. B. and Charles Russell.
Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Boyce Eugene Abston of Gordo, Ala.; daughter, Mary Ann Abston Wallace (Barry) of Gordo, Ala.; sons, David Eugene Abston (Debra) of Gordo, Ala. and James Barry Abston (Pippa) of Madison, Ala.; brother, Jimmy Russell; ten grandchildren, Angel Abston, Airon Abston, Justin McCrary, Jody McCrary, Daniel Seth Abston, Erin Elizabeth Abston, Rachel Amberly Studdard, Raquel Bethany Studdard, Mary Caroline Townsend and Katie Breanna Hall; and two great-grandchildren, Hagan and Addie McCrary.
Joan was born December 16, 1933 in Noxubee County, Mississippi to the late Jodi Russell and Eunice Williams Russell. She was a member of Forest Baptist Church in Benevola and a retired employee of Huyck Felt Company.
Honorary pallbearers are members and deacons of Forest Baptist Church and members of Benevola community.
