Obituary

MCSHAN | Joe Earl Oglesby, age 74, of McShan, Ala., died September 7, 2015, at home surrounded by a host of family and friends.He was born July 14, 1941, to the late Burman and Adell Perrigin Oglesby. He was a deacon and dedicated church member at Union Hill Free Will Baptist Church in McShan and a retired employee of International Paper with 23 years of service. He was a life-long resident of Pickens County and a well known and loved member of the McShan community.He was preceded in death by his sisters, Iva Mae Parker and Aline McDill; nephew, Ronnie Shaw; and brothers-in-law, Clyde McDill, Tillman Parker and Sonny Cowart.Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Betty Coward Oglesby of McShan, Ala.; three children, Teresa Gulley (Chris) of Columbus, Miss., Michael Oglesby (Judy) of Steens, Miss. and Janice Lowe (Terry) of Reform, Ala.; five granddaughters, Jeannette Foster (Jerry), Brittany Shurden (Jason), Katie Atkins (Max), Heather Stapp (Cody) and Hannah Potts (Brandon); one grandson, Shane Gulley; twelve great-grandchildren, Dean, Jeigh and Lee Foster, Anna, Emily, Malynn, Alyssa, Landon and Cameron Shurden, Jade and Haylie Atkins and Emma Stapp; sisters, Minnie Aldridge (Cois) of Millport, Ala., Faye Cowart of Columbus, Miss. and Betty Sims (Mearl) of Columbus, Miss.; brothers, Rolston Oglesby of Carrollton, Ala., Willie Hill Oglesby (Irene) of Reform, Ala. and Leon Oglesby (Pat) of Carrollton, Ala.; and many special nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, September 10, 2015, at Union Hill Free Will Baptist Church in McShan, Ala. with Rev. Kevin Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Family will receive friends at the funeral home tonight, September 9, 2015, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Union Hill Free Will Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o Janice Lowe, 3190 Herbert Windle Road, Reform, AL 35481.
