BIRMINGHAM – A memorial service for John Woodford Abrams Jr., age 72 of Birmingham, Ala., will be held today, November 28 at 10 a.m. at Dogwood Chapel 200 5th St. NE Aliceville, AL with Reverend Jason Housewright, Pastor First Presbyterian Church of Aliceville officiating and Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing.He was preceded in death by his loving mother, Elizabeth Kirksey Abrams and father, John W. Abrams Sr. and his loving cousin Edward McPherson Alston.Survivors include his sons, John J. Abrams and Archie Abrams (Shannon); sister, Robbie Abrams Davis (Charles); grandchildren, Katherine E. Abrams, Kelsey H. Abrams, John David Abrams and Claire McLean Abrams; and one great-grandchild, Addison Jane Abrams.Mr. Abrams was born May 14, 1944 in Pickens County. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Aliceville. He was a farmer in his early career, an educator later in life and a grandfather in the last stage. He served in the Alabama National Guard and was a lifelong resident of the state of Alabama.Honorary pallbearers are Bob Davis, Ted Alston, Tommy Snoddy, Broughton Rogers and Everett Owens.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Salvation Army or Auburn University.
