GORDO | John Williams Acker, Sr., age 74, of Gordo, Ala., died November 26, 2015, at Northport Medical Center. Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, November 29, 2015, at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church with Rev. Glen Sandifer officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. The family will receive friends one hour prior and immediately following the service.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lester Acker and Brandon Acker; and niece. Sharon Skelton.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Peggy Hall Acker; sons, Terry Acker, Rex Acker and wife, Teresa and John Acker and wife, Leanne; sister-in-law, Opal Acker; grandchildren, Ryan Acker, Dylan Acker and Blake Acker; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Acker was born April 2, 1941 in Buhl, Alabama to the late Earnest Acker and Edna Williams Acker. He was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, a veteran of the United States National Guard and a retired employee of B.F. Goodrich with 30 years of service.
John was a loving husband and father who enjoyed spending time with his family as well as his church family.
The grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers are members of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, B.F. Goodrich retirees and Dr. John Brandon and staff.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 301, Gordo, AL 35466.
