Obituary

COLUMBUS, MISS. – John Roy Sullivan, age 88, of Columbus, Miss., died April 15, 2017, at Glen Haven Nursing Home. Services will be 3 p.m. Sunday, April 23, 2017, at Skelton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Shamus Drake officiating. Burial will follow in Gordo City Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be one hour prior and immediately following the service at the funeral home.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Cecil Sullivan, Hudson Sullivan and Clint Sullivan.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Thelma Junkin Sullivan; daughters, Linda Drake and Melody Cantrell (Claude); grandchildren, Shamus Drake (Danalinn), Shannon Drake Box (Jonathan "Ned"), Chelsea Cantrell and Jonathan Cody Cantrell; and great-grandchildren, Katie Belle, Atticus, Aslan and Alistiar.
Mr. Sullivan was born June 27, 1928 in Gordo, Alabama to the late Samuel Walter Sullivan and Ethel Hall Sullivan. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Columbus, Miss., a retired jet engine mechanic at Columbus Air Force Base, a veteran of the United States Navy and the United States Air Force and a well-known resident of Columbus, Miss.
Honorary pallbearers are staff of Martinview and Glen Haven Nursing Home.
