REFORM John Howard Vinson, age 83, of Reform, died November 20, 2013, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services were held at 2 p.m. on November 23, 2013, at Skelton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Smith and Rev. Ralph Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Graham Memorial Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Redus Vinson; and his sisters, Dot Lewis and Gladys Jarrett, and infant sister, Virginia Vinson.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Vinson of Reform, Ala.; daughters, Linda Windham (Lanny) of Gordo, Ala. and Renée Gould (Kevin) of Athens, Ala.; son, Ronnie Vinson of Reform, Ala.; sisters, Mattie Floy Smith, Beatrice Furline, Alice Jean Wilson (Bobby), Betty DuBois, Frances Reeder (Jim), Margie Free (Harrell) and Dee Vinson; brothers, Tom Vinson, Allen Vinson (Myra), and Bonnie Vinson (Johanne); six grandchildren, Melanie Panzik (Chris), Jamie Elmore (Josh), Brandi Vinson, Jennifer Arnold (Robin), Amanda Yarbrough, and Eli Desousa; and great-grandchildren, Kaylee Hodgkins, Devan Shroeder, Christian Panzik, Caleb Elmore, Nathan Elmore, Justin Vinson, Emma Lee Elmore, Joy Lynn Elmore and Merry Layne Elmore.
Mr. Vinson was born September 27, 1930 in Athens, Alabama to the late Benton Lee Vinson and Mary Hamsley Vinson Smith. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church, a retired jeweler and a well known resident of Pickens County.
Pallbearers will be Lanny Windham, Kevin Gould, Josh Elmore, Robin Arnold, Tyler Fest and Bruce Findley.
The family graciously accepts any floral arrangements and suggests that memorials be made to Liberty Baptist Church, 1012 County Road 28, Reform, AL 35481.
