Johnny Mac Pate, age 80, of Gordo Alabama, died March 2, 2026 at DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa. Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Thursday, March 5, 2026 at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church with Rev. Glenn Sandifer officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will follow the service at the church.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Dan and Hattie Sims Pate; daughter, Jodi Danae Pate and sisters, Peggy Payne, Bernice Turman, Nola Mae Foster, Nona Faye Raye, and Annie Lois Smith.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Rhonda Pate of Gordo; son, Jonathan Pate and wife, Kelly of Gordo, daughter, Brittany Campbell and husband, Michael of Gordo; three grandsons, Kyson Pate, Collin Pate, and Cooper Campbell; sisters, Marion Burkhalter of Gordo and Virginia Junkin of Gordo and numerous nieces and nephews.
Johnny was born December 9, 1945 in Pickens County, Alabama. He was a lifelong resident of Gordo, Alabama and a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. He was self-employed for many years of his life working on the family farm but also was employed at various times with Peco Foods. Johnny enjoyed many things in his life, but Gordo Athletics was one of his favorites. He attended all football and baseball games watching nieces cheer, and nephews and grandsons play. He got to see all football and baseball championships, bus rides to jr high football games, and every home / away baseball game. Johnny always had a place to stay with the team. He was proud of Gordo High School and enjoyed every game. He truly enjoyed every practice or game he attended, and the memories that each player gave him. Johnny also enjoyed fishing and hunting with his grandchildren and having picnics in the shooting house.
Pallbearers are Koy Chapman, Bo Chapman, Jeff Parker, Jason Turman, Ryan Lolley and Gerald Hicks.
Honorary Pallbearers are Craig and Robin Patterson, Kelley Whitley, Glenda Sue Driver, and Gordo High School staff for truly making dad a part of every event.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to Gordo High School Athletics, 630 4th Street NW, Gordo, AL 36466.
