CARROLLTON - John Michael ""Johnny"" Roskos, Sr., age 72, of Carrollton, Ala., died January 10, 2016, in Chandler, Arizona. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, January 23, 2016, at Skelton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dr. Chris H. Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Carrollton City Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be one hour prior and after the service at the funeral home.He was preceded in death by his parents, John Joseph Roskos and Helen Buckley Roskos and his wife, Judy Wheat Roskos.Survivors include his daughter, Joan Roskos Jones (Chris H. Jones) of Jonesboro, Ariz.; son, Dr. John Michael Roskos, Jr. (Monica Roskos) of Chandler, Ark.; and grandchildren, Sarah Dianne and Catherine Jones and Michael and Chloe Roskos.Johnny was born May 24, 1943 in Newark, New Jersey. He moved to Carrollton, with his parents, as a young child. He graduated from Carrollton High School in 1961 and graduated from the University of Alabama in 1965 with an engineering degree. He then began his career with Westinghouse Electric Company. He served as plant manager in Paris, Texas; Bath, New York and Owensboro, Ky. Upon retirement from Westinghouse, Johnny and Judy moved to Kansas City, Missouri, where he was plant manager for Peterson Manufacturing. Following Judy's death is 1997, Johnny moved back to Carrollton where he lived until moving to Phoenix Ariz. after being diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. Johnny loved spending time coaching little league baseball, hunting with friends and family, cheering on the Crimson Tide and being ""Pop Pop"" as he shared in the lives of his four grandchildren.Pallbearers will be John Roskos, Jr., Michael Roskos, Bill Huffman, Teddy Ezelle, Hal McGee, Wes Reynolds, Don Hickman and Cal Holt.Honorary pallbearers are Tommy Phillips, Dick Wheat, Ernie Fason, Carl Russell, Stan Strawn, Joe Estano, Jim Frank Seymer, Jimmy Earl Fikes, Mike Julian, Gary Nash, Jim Lassiter, Arthur Chung and Al Cathcart.In lieu of flowers, Johnny's children have set up a memorial fund at West Alabama Bank and Trust, P.O. Box 151, Carrollton, AL 35447 (Attn. Donna Nance). All memorial gifts will fund projects at the Riverside Handicap Hunting Area.
