Joseph Burns, age 74 of Gordo, AL passed away Wednesday April 21, 2021 at DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa, AL. Services will be 2:00 P.M. Sunday, April 25, 2021 at Hannah Church and Cemetery with Rev. Dr. John Kearns and Rev. Dalton Eason officiating, eulogy will be given by grandson Logan Crowell. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be Saturday night April 24, 2021 from 6-8 P.M. at Skelton Funeral Home Chapel in Reform, Al.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Robert Burns; mother, Edna Blackburn Burns; and his infant grandchild Pate.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years Jewel Dyer Burns; Children, Natalie Skelton and husband Ricky, Nikki Crowell and husband Bill, and Appi Pate and husband Mike; sister, Connie Miles brothers, Jim Burns (Delma), and Jerry Dyer (Doris); Nine Grandchildren, Blane Skelton (Leslie), Caleb Skelton, Trinity Patterson (Kyle), Addison Nichols (Tyler), Logan Crowell, Brayden Crowell, Morgan Pate, Harrison Pate, and Lillie Pate; Seven great-grandchildren, Jaxsen Skelton, Grayson Skelton, Cooper Skelton, Saylor Kate Patterson, Sadie Harper Nichols, Rhett Nichols, Ruxton Nichols and a host of nieces and nephews.
Joseph was born on October 07, 1946 in Tuscaloosa, AL. to the late William Robert Burns and Edna Blackburn Burns. He was a retired elevator constructor and mechanic for Bagby, served his country in the U.S. Air Force, and was a member of Christ Harbor Church.
God gave Joe life three times, his physical birth, his spiritual birth when he gave his life to Jesus, and 28 years ago when God saved him from a car accident.
He was a hard worker who would help anyone in need. He taught his family many things. He expected them to do it right the first time.
Joe was a loving and caring husband, father, and Poppa who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and all Alabama sports but most of all his family.
Pallbearers will be Blane Skelton, Caleb Skelton, Logan Crowell, Morgan Pate, Harrison Pate, Brayden Crowell, Tyler Nichols, and Kyle Patterson. Honorary Pallbearers will be Joe Junkins, Keith Greathouse, Jimmy McJenkins, Richard Corder, Dewayne McIntosh, members of Christ Harbor and Hannah Church, Dr. Stephen Browne, David and Cathy Wilson, Armon Rogers, and the 3rd floor staff of DCH.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests all memorials be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
