Joseph L. Elmore, age 84, of Gordo, Alabama passed away September 27th at his residence. Graveside services will be 10:00 am Thursday, September 30, 2021 at Sand Springs Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Ron Martin officiating and Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will follow the service in the church.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Norma Bonner Elmore; son, Terrell W. Elmore (Julie); grandsons, J. Hunter Elmore (Kasey), Taylor L. Robertson (Ashley); great-grandson, Jake Elmore; great-granddaughter, Millie Robertson and brother, Jim Elmore (Angie).
Joseph was born April 9, 1937 in Pickens County, Alabama to the late Ward L. Elmore and Pearlie M. Elmore. He was a professional engineer and professional land surveyor. He helped design the interstate highway system and the Red Mountain Expressway for the State of Alabama. In 1971, he became the City Engineer for the City of Gadsden, Alabama. He retired in 1991 and moved to Gordo, Alabama. During his career as a Professional Engineer, he received many local, state and national awards for Excellence in Engineering.
His hobbies included reading and singing with both the Pickens County Singing Men and the Gordo Methodist Men's Choirs.
