She leaves her legacy to her sister, Annette Hill Lang and brother-in-law William H. Lang Jr.; nephews William H. Lang III and his wife Sharon (Carrollton); Bradford Hill Lang and his wife Brooke (Northport); her great nephews and nieces Kaitlyn, Brayden, Gracie, Jack, and Gabby; and special companions Linda Young, Clara McNeal, Patty Junkin, and Brenda Parker.
Karen was born on October 26th, 1958 in Reform, Alabama, the daughter of the late Dr. William E. Hill and Faye Duren Hill. From the beginning, her family surrounded her with love and affection that developed Karen into a wonderfully loved spirit that resonated throughout all that knew her. Her disability never disabled her, rather it enabled her to touch so many in her life. There wasn't much Karen didn't accomplish in life.
She was blessed with parents who dedicated their lives to help her achieve her goals. Karen was an Olympic gold medalist taking gold in both the 50 yard Freestyle and 25 yard Backstroke events while participating in the Special Olympics in California in 1972. She was a member of the Girl Scouts, attended the Robison Geer Center, and worked in the Laundry department at Pickens County Medical Center. In 2008, she was given the great honor of being the Grand Marshall of Carrollton's Christmas Parade.
Her favorite hobbies included swimming, putt-putt golf, riding motorcycles, and offshore fishing with her daddy.
Pallbearers will be Creagh Webb, David Pate, Willie Colvin, Brad Lang, William (Bunky) H. Lang III, and Keith Cox. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Dale Robbins and staff, and the laundry staff at Pickens County Medical Center.
The family would also like to give a special thanks to the staff of Pickens County Medical Center and Amedisys Hospice for their compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alabama Special Olympics, at give.specialolympics.org in memory of Karen Hill.
