Obituary

PALMETTO, Ala. | Leon Cooper, age 86, of Palmetto, Ala., died April 25, 2014, at home. Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at Skelton Funeral home Chapel with Rev. Ralph Smith and Rev. Trey Kelley officiating. Burial will follow in Unity Grove Methodist Church Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be one hour prior and immediately following the service at the funeral home.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Harwood, Heddie, and Redus Cooper; and sisters, Mary Kelley and Avalou Kelley.
Survivors include his wife, Kittie Jean Propst Cooper; daughter, Teresa Copper Mordecai (Mike); grandson, Cody Mordecai (Morri); and granddaughter, Breanne Mordecai.
Mr. Cooper was born April 22, 1928, in Lamar County, Ala., to the late Robert "Bob" Cooper and Louella Fields Cooper. He attended Unity Grove United Methodist Church and was a retired employee of Alabama Power. Leon was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and a well-known resident of Pickens County.
Pallbearers will be Reed Cooper, Johnny Gibson, James H. Kelley, Pat Irvin, Jeff Kyles, and Brother House.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials may be made to Unity Grove Campground, Palmetto Community Center, or the Palmetto Volunteer Fire Dept., P.O. Box 582, Reform, AL 35481.
