REFORM – Lillian Bates Hughes, age 85, beloved mother, grandmother, aunt and friend passed away on April 24, 2017 in the presence of family at Hospice of West Alabama. Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, April 27, 2017, at Skelton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Hall officiating. Burial will follow in Arbor Springs Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be tonight, Wednesday, April 26, 2017, from 6 - 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William "Buddy" Hughes; her parents; sisters, Gladys and Odessa; and brother, Charles.
Survivors include her daughters, Reenay Rogers (Ridge) and Rebazelle Bobo; grandchildren, Annah Rogers, Lillian "Lily" Rogers, Shawn Shaw (Mike) and Danny Bobo; seven great-grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mrs. Hughes was born October 5, 1931 in Pickens County, Alabama to the late William Austin Bates and Annie Pauline Hubbard Bates. She was a retired employee of Wolverine Cap Factory and a lifelong resident of Pickens County.
Lillian worked hard her whole life, loved her family more than anything and always went out of her way to help anyone in need.
Pallbearers will be Rodney Bates, Greg Bates, Daniel Bates, Ryan James, James Isbell and Terry Rhudy.
