Lona Lee Sims, age 68, of Ethelsville, AL passed away February 20, 2022 at DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Saturday, February 26, 2022 at Rock Solid Church in Gordo with Bro. Korey Kizziah officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be one hour prior and immediately following the service at the church.
She was preceded in death by her fiancé, James Sheldon "Shelbo"Gates and her parents.
Survivors include her daughters, Christy Sajpel (Matt) of Helena, AL, Tammy Black (Harry) of Brookwood, AL and Crystal Smith (Anthony) of Duncanville, AL; sons, Mike Sims (Trudie) of Tuscaloosa, AL, Will Sims (Tammy) of Ethelsville, AL, Eric Sims of Lubbock, TX and Jason Sims (Jamie) of Tuscaloosa, AL; sister, Marie McCormick of Rock Cliff, OH; thirteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Sims was born April 28, 1953 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to the late Ellis Foster Jones and Madeline Lynnheart Jones. She was a member of Rock Solid Church and retired employee of Peco Foods in Gordo.
Pallbearers will be Matt Sajpel, Jason Sims, Harry Black, Chris Hutton, Donovan Black and Dontevious Cotton.
Honorary Pallbearers are staff and nurses of Amedisys Home Health, the Starkville Ministry Class, Pickens County Baptist Association, son, Eric Sims, John Abrams, Jeremy Abrams, Caleb Sims and Bannon Black.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the VA Hospital in Tuscaloosa, 3701 Loop Road, Tuscaloosa, AL 35404-5099.
