GORDO - Mrs. Junkin, age 96, of Gordo, was born to Dee and Mertie Walters on June 8, 1919, and was raised in Gordo, Alabama in the Zion community. She was a longtime resident of Tuscaloosa, Alabama where she was a homemaker and faithful member of Alberta Baptist Church. In her later years, she resided with her daughter in Gordo where she passed away on May 19, 2016. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, William Grady Junkin; infant daughter, Alma Marie Simmons; brother, Vernie Walters; step-son, Reverend Lamar Junkins; and step-daughter-in-law, Beth Junkin.She is survived by her daughter, Geraldine Herring (Dwight) of Gordo; step-sons, Joe Junkins (Pat) of Northport and Larry Junkin (Cindy) of Northport; grandchildren, Deanna Duren (Frank) of Gordo, Kevin Herring (Jennifer) of Northport and Ben Herring (Beth) of Metairie, La.; step-grandchildren, Melissa Jenkins (Chris), Heather Leavell (Dan), Jason Junkins, Danielle McDowell (Wes), JD Junkins (Jamie), Brittany Syx (Matthew); 12 great-grandchildren; nephew, Gary Walters (Judy) of Jasper; nieces, Scarlett Walters Jones of Greer, South Carolina and Judy Walters Lamon of Tuscaloosa. Honorary pallbearers are the nurses and staff of Amedysis Hospice, members of Alberta Baptist Church and all the wonderful friends and neighbors of Zion community. The family would like to give a special thanks to her sitters, Elsie Richardson, Alice Parker and Kristy Bailey and a very special thank you to her caregiver, Jackie Lowery.
