May 8, 1942 – March 7, 2023
Harry Douglas McArthur "Mac" Tilley, age 80, of Gordo, AL went to his heavenly home on March 7, 2023 at Aspire of West Alabama. Graveside services will be 2:00 Friday, March 10, 2023 at Center Springs Cemetery with Rev. Bobby Boothe officiating and Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be 12:00 noon until 1:45 pm Friday, March 10, 2023 at Elmore Center Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Jacqueline Beavers and Ruby Dot Morrison and brother, Ernest "Gob" Tilley.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Mary; his children, Doug Tilley (Brandy), Kenny Tilley (Belinda) and Michael Tilley (Richard); grandchildren, Mariah Ferguson (Keith), Tara Hanselman-Bennett (Keaton), Kendra Horner (Lee), Robbie Tilley (Lauren), Ross Tilley, Taylor and Kavin Rice; great-grandchildren, Blake, Baelynn and Emeryn Tilley, Juniper Hanselman-Bennett, Lura Hanselman-Bennett, Brian Ferguson (Brooke) and Faith Junkin (Caleb); his siblings, Betty Pearson (Harold), Gene Tilley (Geraline), Gordon Tilley (Louise), Collin Tilley (Sue) and Gaylon Tilley and a host of friends who will miss him dearly.
Mac was born May 8, 1942 to the late Dwight Tilley and Doshia Hall Tilley. He attended school at Tuscaloosa County High and was a member of Elmore Center Church. He married Mary Elmore of Gordo on May 2, 1961 and together they had three children, Douglas Len, Kenneth McArthur and Harry Michael. He spent his adult life working at Noland Lumber Company before opening the BP Gas Station in Gordo. During his retirement years, he worked part time as a stocker at Piggly Wiggly.
In his free time, Mac enjoyed hunting, fishing, Alabama football and watching NASCAR racing. He enjoyed gardening every year. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Robbie Tilley, Ross Tilley, Lee Horner, Taylor Rice, Freddy Smith and Jimmy Beams.
Honorary Pallbearers are Danny Price, Jimmy Sullivan, Jerry Langdon, employees of Davita Dialysis in Carrollton, his friends from Piggly Wiggly and his Elmore Center Church family.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to Children's Hospital of Birmingham, 1600 7th Avenue South, Birmingham, AL 35233-1785, Center Springs Cemetery, c/o Mary Tilley, 337 County Road 21, Gordo, AL 35466 or Elmore Center Church, c/o Mary Tilley, 337 County Road 21, Gordo, AL 35466.
