GORDO – Martha Smith Homan, age 87, of Gordo, Ala., died September 12, 2017, at her residence. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, September 16, 2017, at Skelton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dan Cook officiating. Burial will follow in Greenhill Memorial Gardens with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jonas L. Homan; her parents; son-in-law, Kenneth "Kenny" Quimby; and brother, Jessie Lonzo "Pineapple" Smith, Jr.
Survivors include her daughters, Judy Homan Mansell (Johnny), Charlotte Homan Pritchett (Milton), Connie Homan Quimby and Martha Lou Peeks Porter (Wayne); seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Martha was born April 7, 1930 in Jefferson County, Alabama to the late Jessie Lonzo Smith, Sr. and Edna Charlotte Cain Smith. She was a retired grocery store sales clerk and a well-known resident of the Gordo community.
Pallbearers will be John Mansell, Nik Driver, Shane Galloway, Jake Galloway, Cain Horton and Todd Pritchett.
Honorary pallbearers are Austin Pritchett, Jessie Pritchett, members of Gordo Methodist Church Bible Study and employees of Hospice of West Alabama.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Hospice of West Alabama, 3851 Loop Road, Tuscaloosa, AL 35404.
