He was a faithful, devoted member of Carrollton Baptist Church where he accepted the Lord as his Savior at the age of 14. His favorite scripture verse was John 15:5 -''I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and 1 in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.'' He was a veteran and served his Country 1n the United States Navy; he loved to work in his shop; loved old farm equipment; loved to go to flea markets to collect things for his "antique room''; and enjoyed watching his sons play all sports. He retired after 32 years as Service Manager from Martin Truck and Tractor Company, Inc. in Aliceville, Ala. He was a legend in his own time; it was often said that ''If Marvin can't fix it, it can't be fixed!'' In 2009, Marvin and Marsha were awarded the John W. Owings Memorial Award by the Carrollton Lions Club in recognition of their service to others. Marvin had a heart for the lost and enjoyed going on mission trips. He went on several to North American trips and one international trip to the Ukraine. During his retirement, he enjoyed volunteering at Pickens County Medical Center and going to PCMC Health Plex, drinking coffee with his buddies and exercising with Betty Taggart and the PACE class. He was a quiet man with a big smile and twinkling brown eyes who loved the Lord, his family, his church and his friends. He was always willing to help anyone in their time of need. He left a legacy of family devotion, giving a hard day's work for a day's pay, never being wasteful and being thankful for the blessings of God.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to Carrollton Baptist Church Mission Fund, P. O. Box 457, Carrollton, AL 35447 or Hospice of West Alabama, 3851 Loop Road, Tuscaloosa, AL 35404.
