Marvin Spiller, 97, of Sapps, Alabama, passed away on July 11, 2026, at his residence. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Thursday, July 16, 2026 at Aliceville First Baptist Church with Rev. Charlie Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Pilgrim Rest Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be one hour prior and immediately following the service at the church.
Mr. Spiller was born on December 29, 1928, in Sapps, Alabama, to Harvey Coleman Spiller and Edna Erline Jay Spiller. He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife of 61 years, Carolyn Fay Storey Spiller; his daughter, Martha Erline Spiller Taylor; his brother, W. C. "Bud" Spiller; and his sister, Mary Edna Spiller Watts.
As a teenager, Mr. Spiller trusted Jesus Christ as his Savior at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Sapps. He went on to become an active member of Aliceville First Baptist Church for some 70 years, where he faithfully served as a deacon, a Sunday School teacher, and on various committees throughout the years.
Mr. Spiller received his early education in the schools of Sapps and Carrollton, Alabama, and graduated from Carrollton High School in 1946. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War before going on to attend the University of Alabama, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting in 1956. Shortly after graduating, he became a Certified Public Accountant, and he went on to build a respected CPA practice in Aliceville, Alabama, that he maintained for more than 30 years, serving the community with dedication and integrity throughout his career.
In his free time, Mr. Spiller enjoyed hunting and fishing, pastimes that brought him much joy throughout his life.
He is survived by five children: Jay Spiller (Carolyn) of Brooksville, MS; Byron Spiller of Sapps, AL; Edna Faye Spiller Stevens (Scott) of Greensboro, AL; Leslie Spiller (Traci) of Demopolis, AL; and Mary Jean Spiller Noland (Bert) of Sapps, AL; his son-in-law, Robert Taylor of Frisco, TX; his sister-in-law, Martha Storey Morgan of Vestavia Hills, AL; 14 grandchildren; and 19 great- grandchildren.
Mr. Spiller will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his devotion to his family, his steady commitment to his profession, and the many lives he touched over the course of his long life.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pilgrim Rest Cemetery, in c/o Jean McBride, 15689 Hwy 17, Aliceville, AL 35442.
