Our loving and sweet mother, Mary Edna Howard made the transition from sin and death to life everlasting on March 1, 2023. Graveside services will be 10:00 am Saturday, March 4, 2023 at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery in Gordo with Bro. John Mitchell officiating and Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. A brief visitation will follow the service at the graveside.
Preceding her in death were her husband, the love of her life, Dwight Howard; her infant son, Darren; her parents, Murray Corr and Gladys Hardy Corr; brother, Blanton Corr and sister, Jo Doris Guy.
Survivors include her two sons, Derrick Howard and Ken Howard; several nieces and nephews and her seven cats, who already know something isn't right. She loved her cats and her cats loved her.
Mary Edna was a retired LPN having worked at Glenn Haven Nursing Home for 30 years and was a faithful member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. Although our mother couldn't debate theology with you and had never even heard of Augustine or Luther, many years ago, she heard about Jesus and his finished work on the cross - his death, burial and resurrection - and embraced him. She began the process of exuberating love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness and temperance in her daily life. Even though she was relatively poor, she exhibited to everyone how to live an abundant life.
In the last three years, bedridden, she never once complained and gave a demonstration of how a Christian should die. Heaven's gain is our loss. She will be greatly missed.
