GORDO - Mary Joy Mills, age 86, of Gordo, Alabama heard "well done thy good and faithful servant" Matthew 25:21 and entered into the joy of the Lord, on July 6, 2017, at Glen Haven Health and Rehab. A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, July 9, 2017 at Hargrove United Methodist Church in Gordo, Alabama with Rev. Dr. Joey Karr; nephew, Danny C. Gann; and niece, Staci Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home directing. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to and immediately following the service.
Joy was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Corbit Mills and Bessie Hardy Mills; brothers-in-law, O.J Pugh, Harold G. Gann and Rev. Dr. Samuel G. Andreasen; niece, Annette Gann Jones; and great-nephew, Adam Jones.
She is survived by her sisters, Jo Lee Gann and Jean Pugh-Andreasen; nieces and nephews, Tina Duffy and husband, Danny, Brenda Beasley and husband, Tim, Charles Gann and wife, Holly, Danny Gann and wife, Angie and Thomas R. Jones, Jr.; great-nieces and nephews, Derek Duffy and wife, Tina, Staci Wilson and husband, Marty, Matthew Jones and wife, Chelsea, Rachel Jones, Chandler Gann, Allison Gann, Danielle Gann and Heather Gann; and great-great-nieces and nephews, Caden and Brock Duffy, Davis, Piper, Turner and Charlotte Anne Jones, Jackson, Addison Belle and Crawford Wilson, Estelle Gann, and Brooke, Brianna and Jesse Lang. She is also survived by numerous cousins.
Joy retired from the Alabama Power Company after many years of service. She was a member of Hargrove United Methodist Church and held numerous offices in many organizations including United Methodist Women, being a charter member of the Las Amigas Club and BPW, the Gordo Area Chamber of Commerce and Girl Scouts of America. In 2009, Joy was honored by being named Gordo Citizen of the year.
Joy's love for her Lord and Savior was vibrantly shown all of her life. She was truly an example of serving others through her selfless acts of kindness and generosity to her family, friends or anyone in need.
Pallbearers will be Matthew Jones, Charles Gann, Danny Gann, Chandler Gann, Tim Beasley, Danny Duffy, Derek Duffy and Marty Wilson.
Honorary pallbearers are members of Hargrove United Methodist Church and the Las Amigas Club, all friends and neighbors, Glen Haven Health and Rehab, Dr. John Brandon, and personal caregivers Faye Sutton, Sandi Towne, Faye Marlowe, Mary Lou Spain, Jackie Lowery, Bonnie Vails and Wilda Lee.
