Mary Elizabeth Powell, age 95, of Reform, AL passed away December 12, 2020 at Hospice of West Alabama. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Saturday, December 19, 2020 at Skelton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joey Lucas officiating. Burial will follow in Ethelsville Community Cemetery with Skelton funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J. K. Powell; grandson, Randy Byars; her parents; brothers, Carter, Troy, Calvin, James, Dewitt, Shaden, Junior and Virgil Whitten; sisters, Louise Bradshaw and Corrine Jaynes; stepson, Jerry Powell; stepdaughter, Ann Finch and step-grandson, Wesley Stewart.
Survivors include her daughter, Brenda Byars (Charles); brothers, Earnest Whitten and Bennie Whitten (Patsy); sister, Blanche Taylor; sister-in-law, Mae Whitten; four grandchildren, Ricky Byars (Karen), Monica Byars, Keith Stewart (Helena) and Christy Kohler; six great-grandchildren, Ashton Ridgley (Blake), Randa Byars, Tracey Tonsmeire, Tegan Callaghan (Joe), Jessica Beard and Leah Claire Stewart; four great-great-grandchildren, Paxton, Conner, Sophie and Reanna and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mary was born March 19, 1925 in Camden, Mississippi to the late Clarence A. Whitten and Alice Elizabeth Brownlee Whitten. She was a member of Ethelsville Baptist Church and retired employee of Aliceville Cotton Mill with 30 years of service. Mary loved her family with all her heart.
Thank you to all the nurses and staff of Arbor Woods for the wonderful care you gave Mama during her stay there. She loved you all. Thank you also to everyone at Hospice of West Alabama for being so good to her and treating her with care and respect.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
