Obituary

Mary Ruth Sims, age 81, of Gordo, AL died September 13, 2018 at Heritage Health & Rehab.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Sunday, September 16, 2018 at Flatwoods Baptist Church with Rev. Max Stripling,
Rev. Todd Burkhalter, Rev. Chad Manion and Rev. Leonard Hill officiating. Music will be provided by Jeremy Manion,
Jewell Manion and Joe Brown. Burial will follow in Greenhill Memorial Gardens with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform
directing. Visitation will be Saturday, September 15, 2018 from 6 - 8 pm at the funeral home.
The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service at the church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Grover Dempsey Sims; her parents; sisters-in-law, Emma
Gaye Guy, Gena Ruth Manion and Mabel Fair and brothers-in-law, Joe Sims, Jack Sims, Frank Sims and Thomas Sims.
Survivors include her daughters, Robin Sims Gilliland and Mitzi Sims-VanZile and husband, Steve; brother, Max Stripling (Elaine);
sister, Bobbie Hall (Bob); grandson, Joshua Gilliland (Elizabeth); great- grandchildren, Harlowe Wilson and Skyler Crane; special nephew,        Larry Manion; special niece, Terrie McDaniel and a host of other nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Sims was born December 24, 1936 in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama to the late Thad Erskine
Stripling and Jane Robertson Stripling. She was a member of Flatwoods Baptist Church and co-owner of Sims Seafood.
"Mrs. Ruth" loved her Lord Jesus Christ and family with all her being. She will be greatly missed
and mourned by family and countless friends. She had a smile and kind word for everyone she met. She
leaves a tremendous testimony by the life she lived.
Pallbearers will be Joshua Gilliland, David Guy, Terrie Hall, Larry Manion, Suzanne Pearson,
Rita Sims Russell, Doug Sims, John Sims, Lance Stripling and Thad Stripling.
Honorary Pallbearers are Carolyn Billups, Posey Hicks, Luke and Michelle Mobley, Dean O'Neal, Vivian Seymer, Josh VanZile,
Vince and Mallory VanZile, Gordo High School Class of 1955, Flatwoods Baptist Church Ladies Sunday School Class, Dr. Edward Carraway, Amedisys Home Health and Heritage Health Care Station #4.
The family graciously accepts flowers and suggests memorials to Flatwoods Baptist Church, 778 Flatwoods Road, Gordo, AL 35466.
