She was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband, Leroy Junkins; her parents, George Wilburn Miller, Sr. and Vera Mae Lindsey Miller; four brothers; one sister and daughter-in law, Renita Junkins.
Survivors include her daughters, Karen Reece (Rickey) and Carol Weissend (Danny); sons, Larry Junkins (Traci) and Ricky Junkins; granddaughter, Heather Chavers (Dan); grandsons, Brandon Reece (Kellie), Jed Hughes (Jessie), Bryan Hughes, Ben Junkins (Taylor), and Wes Junkins; great-grandchildren, Colin and Sadie Chavers, Rylee and Karlee Reece, McKenzie and Grayson Hughes; sisters, Gladys Posey, Betty Robertson, Linda Beams, Doris Jones (Earnest), Joyce Murrah, Bonnie Lynn, Connie Martin (Auzie) and June Grammar.
Maxine was born July 24, 1936 in Gordo, Alabama. She graduated from Gordo High School and married her true love, Leroy Junkins on July 10, 1954. They raised their four children in their home in Gordo built on a strong faith in God, love of family, laughter and memories that will be cherished by family for a lifetime. Maxine retired from Westinghouse after many years of service. She was very involved with her church Mt. Pleasant Baptist (WMU, mission trips, Baptist Center) and loved her church family like her own. She was known as Maw-Maw to everyone in the church.
She was fiercely proud of her family, but especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren (who never did anything wrong!). Some of her greatest pleasures included trips to her beloved Gatlinburg, playing practically any card or board game ever invented, (even cheating at times!), her back porch where she enjoyed her flowers and her birds and visits from her sweet sisters and friends and especially any get together we could come up with. She was our sweet Momma (a little spoiled!) but precious as gold and we will forever miss her and have a huge empty space in our hearts. We are so very blessed to know that she is whole again, dancing in the wind with her true love and forever in the arms of Jesus.
Pallbearers will be Brandon Reece, Dan Chavers, Jed Hughes, Bryan Hughes, Ben Junkins, Wes Junkins, Colin Chavers, and Grayson Hughes.
Honorary pallbearers will be Richard and Betty Bealis, Kay Owen, Todd and Tammy Hall, Betty Branyon, Deborah and Johnny McDaniel, members of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, Hospice of West Alabama, Chuck Plowman, Brianna Jones and Heather Pugh. Special thanks to Lenora Phillips-Holin (so much more than mommas "Bath Lady").
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Hospice of West Alabama, 3851 Loop Rd., Tuscaloosa, AL 35404 or Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 301, Gordo, AL 35466.
