GORDO - Melba Pate Wheat, age 92, of Gordo, died November 28, 2016, at Grandview Medical Center in Birmingham, Ala. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, December 2, 2016, at Skelton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Harvey Edwards IV officiating. Burial will follow in Center Springs Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the funeral home.She was preceded in death by her husband, J. C. Wheat; her parents and brother, William Burnum Pate.Survivors include her daughters, Vicki Browder (O'Neal) of Birmingham, Ala., Manda Humber (Terry) of Birmingham, Ala., and Rebecca Goldsmith (Jim) of Atlanta, Ga.; sister, June Elmore (Price) of Gordo, Ala.; brother, Randall "Buddy" Pate (Sibbie) of Gordo, Ala.; eight grandchildren, Jason Walker (Brandy), Jonathan Walker (Karen), Matthew Humber, Michael Humber (Katheryn), Meredith Humber Fitzpatrick (Trey), Melissa Humber Yan (Shaun), Ben Goldsmith and Brian Goldsmith (Kelley); and 16 great-grandchildren.Melba was born November 28, 1924 in Gordo, Alabama to the late William Harlan Pate and Kittie Dale Shirley Pate. She was a homemaker, member of Elmore Center United Methodist Church and former member of Fayette First United Methodist Church.Pallbearers will be grandsons and granddaughters, Jason, Jonathan, Matthew, Michael, Meredith, Melissa, Ben and Brian.The family wishes to express their appreciation to the "late" Ruby Jean Sullivan, Mary Spain, staff of St. Martin's Assisted Living, staff and nurses of Danberry Assisted Living, doctors, nurses and staff of Grandview Medical Center/Orthopedics 6th floor.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Avenue 7th Floor, New York, NY 1000.
