Obituary

Mildred B. Hanson, age 94, of Carrollton, Alabama went home to be with her Heavenly Father on March 7, 2021 at Hospice of West Alabama. Private graveside services will be held at Carrollton City Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform officiating. The family requests masks be worn, and social distancing be observed.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 31 years, Hugh Thomas Hanson; her parents, and brother, James Alton Burgess.

Survivors include her daughters, Janice Hanson of Birmingham, Alabama and Wanda Lewis (Doug) of Auburn, Alabama; two grandsons, Nathaniel Hanson Lewis and Jonathan Michael Lewis; sister-in-law, Helen Hanson Funderburk and nieces and nephews.

Mildred was born in Coalfire, Alabama on August 22, 1926 to the late Otis and Clara Burgess. She was a dedicated member and servant of Carrollton Baptist Church where she was also a member of Friendship Sunday School Class.

Mildred was Head Cashier of First State Bank of Carrollton and retired from West Alabama Bank. She was a member of Pickens County Medical Center Auxiliary and volunteered at Pickens Baptist Association and Pickens Baptist Center. She enjoyed sharing her talents of cooking and sewing with many.

Honorary pallbearers are Butch McCafferty, Ronnie Summerville, members of her Sunday School Class, Laverne and Charlotte Bryant, Lois Bruce, Faye Heritage Tilley, Dr. Dana Rizk, UAB Nephrologist; Dr. Dean Assimos, UAB Urologist; and the Staff at Hospice of West Alabama.
