Mildred Earline Montgomery Herndon, age 94, of Auburn, AL passed away October 9, 2021 at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, AL. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Sunday, October 17, 2021 at Dogwood Chapel, 200 5th Street NE in Aliceville, AL with Rev. Dr. Gene Lankford officiating. Burial will follow in Magnolia Memorial Gardens with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will follow the service at Dogwood Chapel. The family requests masks be worn for the service.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George F. Herndon; daughter, Karen H. Wilkins; her parents and brothers, J. B. Montgomery and Robert Montgomery.
Survivors include her son, George Herndon and wife, Cil; sister, Mary Cleveland; five grandchildren, Christie Herndon Guffey (Brad), Amy Herndon Manguso (Chris), Carrie Herndon Heath (Anthony), Tanya Wilkins Nichols (Brent) and Chad Wilkins (Mandy); thirteen great-grandchildren; special nephew, Chris Cleveland and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Herndon was born March 31, 1927 in Aliceville, Alabama to the late J.W.B. Montgomery and Eva Drummond Montgomery. She was a member of Aliceville First United Methodist Church, a former employee of Westinghouse and retired from Huyck Felt Company as the secretary to the plant manager. Mildred's hobbies were sewing, crocheting and taking care of her flowers. She loved traveling and camping and she was happiest taking care of her grand kids and great-grand kids. She was especially happy lately when her two great-grand kids, Hayden and Harper came to Sunday lunch.
Pallbearers will be Chris Cleveland, Chris Manguso, Jay Cleveland, Charles Clayton Herndon, Chad Wilkins, Eddie Pritchett and Frankie Reynolds.
