Janie Mildred "Millie" Powell, age 86, of Gordo, AL (Benevola community) passed away September 14, 2022 at Arbor Springs Health & Rehab in Opelika, AL. Graveside services will be 4:00 pm Friday, September 16, 2022 at Bethesda Presbyterian Church Cemetery with Rev. Dr. Tim Alexander officiating and Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be after the graveside service at the Benevola Community Center.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace Doyle Powell; her parents; sister, Odean Ammons Fondren (Carl); brothers, Quinton Ammons (Mavis), William "Toby" Ammons and James Ammons (Lillian) and nephew, Carl James Fondren.
Survivors include her daughter, Terrie Powell Alexander and husband, Tim; two grandchildren, Neel Alexander and Jan Alexander Sharp (Brandon); great-grandson, Finn Alexander Carl Sharp; nieces, Mary Fondren Lackman (Luke), Aubrey Fondren Biehn , Denise Ammons Walker, Lanelle Ammons Neel (Allen) and Janie Ammons and a number of great-nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Millie was born February 18, 1936 in Mississippi to the late Lafayette Guest "Hudge" Ammons and Janie Oglesby Ammons. She was one of a kind. She loved life, fishing, laughter, singing, friends and family. She may have been on the wrong verse or gotten a word wrong here or there, but she was smiling and at her happiest when singing, especially to her daughter and her grandchildren. A lasting memory will be her singing, "I love you a bushel and a peck" to her great-grandson, Finn, just like she did to her daughter and her grandchildren. We love you Granny ! It's not "good-bye" but "see you later !"
Millie was a bus driver, school employee, homemaker, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. She was a faithful believer of Jesus Christ and a member of the Worldwide Church of God.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to Bethesda Cemetery Fund, c/o Tim Powell, 344 Maughan Road, Gordo, AL 35466.
