GORDO – Nellie Faye McCrackin, age 85, of Gordo, Ala., died August 8, 2017, at her daughter's residence. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, August 11, 2017, at Skelton Funeral Home with Rev. Lenwood Gilliland officiating. Burial will follow in Dunn's Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Echola, Ala., with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be tonight, Thursday, August 10, 2017, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
She was preceded in death by her son, Rick McCrackin; her parents; and her brother, William F. Sullivan.
Survivors include her daughters, Rhonda Faye Bouldin (Steve) and Sherry Diane Phillips; daughter-in-law, Alice McCrackin; nine grandchildren and their spouses; nineteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Nellie Faye was born July 7, 1932, four miles south of Moores Bridge located in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. She attended grammar school at Echola and graduated from Montgomery High School in 1952.
She married J. K. McCrackin on January 26, 1952. They were married 31 years and had three children. Throughout those years she traveled with her husband and family with the United States Air Force and she saw the world. They traveled to Canada, Scotland, Ireland, France, Luxembourg, Spangdahlem, Germany and the Azores Islands.
Upon returning to the United States, Faye and her family were stationed in several United States military bases in Texas, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, Virginia and Michigan. She enjoyed all the years she traveled with her family.
After her divorce, Faye settled in Northport where she worked for the JR Food Mart in Coker. She retired in Gordo, Alabama where she lived out the remainder of her many years.
Pallbearers will be Eric Duane Hallford, Trey McCrackin, Nicholas Pounders, Brian McCrackin, Chris McCrackin and Buddy Boswell.
Honorary pallbearers are Brad Phillips, United States Air Force Germany, nurses and staff of Amedisys Hospice and all friends and neighbors.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to the Leukemia Research Foundation, 191 Waukegan, Rd., Suite 105, Northfield, IL 60093-2744.
