Obituary

Gordo | Nettie Shaw Brown, age 92, of Gordo, died August 12, 2015, at Health Health Care. Services will be 4:00 p.m. Saturday, August 15, 2015, at Skelton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ralph Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Cross Roads Baptist Church Cemetery in Gordo with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be one hour prior and immediately following the service at the funeral home.
Nettie was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Edward Brown; daughter, Irene Smith; parents, Evan Calvin Shaw and Dorcas Walker Shaw; infant brother, William Revel Shaw; sister, Tommie Miller; and daughter-in-law, Becky Brown.
Survivors include her son, Walter Brown (Sharon) of Gordo, Ala.; son-in-law, Jim Smith of Church Hill, Tenn.; sisters, Mattie Timmerman of Pensacola, FL, Inez Moilan of Dallas, TX, and Ernestine McCrary of Moundville, Ala.; brothers, James Shaw of Gordo, Ala. and Joe Shaw (Betty) of Moundville, Ala.; 3 grandchildren, Adrian Smith (Heather), Shawna S. Dyer (Jon) and Clinton Brown (Abby); 4 great-grandchildren, Zetta Smith, Cade Smith, Colter Brown, and Weston Brown; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Ms. Nettie, as she was known by most everyone, has gone to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. This was her goal in life. She has touched so many lives over the years as well as being a person always willing to help anyone in need.
Being a teacher most of her life, she taught at Zion School, special needs children at the Church of Christ in Reform, Alabama and finally at "Little Friends Kindergarten: that she owned and operated in Gordo for many years. At the kindergarten she taught children about God, Country, Respect and how to tie their shoes.
Ms. Nettie was always involved in her church at Cross Roads Baptist in Gordo where she was the oldest living member! She was very active in the Sipsey Baptist Association for many years. Ms. Nettie will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Pallbearers will be Clinton Brown, Adrian Smith, Jon Dyer, Paul Brown, Tim Brown, Chris Shaw, and Drake Shaw.
Honorary Pallbearers will be the staff of Heritage Health Care, George, Eddie and Blake Jackson, who always made her feel special, Betty Christian, John and Margaret Fair, Naomi Brown, and Jane Ammons.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations may be given to Cross Roads Baptist Church or Cross Roads Cemetery, Inc., c/o C. Junkin, 8074 County Rd. 49, Gordo, Ala 35466. -
