Obituary

GORDO Patricia Randall Wood Walker, age 64, of Gordo, died September 24, 2013, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be 3 p.m. Friday, September 27, 2013, at Flatwoods Baptist Church with Rev. Jack House and Rev. Leonard Hill officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to and immediately following the services at the church.She was preceded in death by her parents; her niece, Michelle Kerr; and brother-in-law, Larry Walker.Survivors include her husband, Jeffrey B. Walker of Gordo, Ala.; daughters, Shannon Bowles of Buhl, Ala. and Miranda Bowles of Gordo, Ala.; sons, Kenneth Bowles (Jennifer) of Gordo, Ala. and Randall Bowles (Shannon) of Reform, Ala.; stepson, Danny Walker (April) of Northport, Ala.; stepdaughter, Tammy Turner (Stacey) of Gordo, Ala.; sister, Dianne Kerr (Dudley) of Northport, Ala.; brother, Jake Wood (Phyllis) of Northport, Ala.; five grandchildren, Erica Stanfill (William), Katelyn and McKenzie Bowles, Taylor and Nathan Reece; one step-grandchild, Adilyn Walker; and father and mother-in-law, William and Nell Walker.Mrs. Walker was born January 26, 1949 in Birmingham, Alabama to the late James Wood and Martha White Wood. She was a member of Flatwoods Baptist Church and a retired LPN. Patty was many things; wife, sister, friend, nurse, mother and grandmother. Her favorite was being a "Momma," "Nana," and "Memur." She went back to college at the age of 39 and finished at the top of her nursing class. She loved being a nurse and caring for her patients. It was in her nature to be a caring mother so much, that her children's friends called her "Momma."She loved Alabama football (Joe "Willie" Namath), Blue Bell ice cream and cooking. Her love of cooking inspired her children and led her to handwriting a cookbook for each of her children. She crocheted blankets for family; friends and anyone she thought might like a blanket. She will be greatly missed. A special thank you to Ouida Clements Rabon for her gift of a kidney transplant that blessed Patty with a new lease on life.
