ETHELSVILLE, Ala. | Raymond Owen Cowart, age 86, of Ethelsville, Ala., died December 7, 2014, at home. Services will be 3 p.m. Tuesday, December 9, 2014, at Skelton Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Roy Plymon officiating. Burial will follow in Mineral Springs Baptist Church Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be held one hour prior and after the service at the funeral home.
He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Jennifer Diane Cowart; sister, Laudice Perrigin (Coy); brothers, William "Bunk" Cowart (Leslie), L.V. Cowart (Lorene), and Edward Laverne "Sonny" Cowart; brothers-in-law, J.C. Peeks, Wilson Brown, and Frank Jordan.
Survivors include his wife, Merline Sartor Cowart; son, Billy Cowart (Diane); Bobby Cowart (Rhonda), and Tony Cowart (Sherry); sisters, Deline Brown, Betty Jo Jordan, Sue Plymon (Roy), and Lily Peeks; brothers, Fred Cowart (Faye) and Tommy Cowart (Susan); sister-in-law, Faye Cowart; six grandchildren, Stacey, Jason (Rena), Kari (Seth), Casey, Kenny, and Lindsey (Casey); eight great-grandchildren, Abby, Jordan, Celie, Carson, Allie, Jacob, Meridith, and Maddi; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Cowart was born November 27, 1928, in McShan, Ala., to the late Lester Vonner Cowart and Mary Alice Robinson Cowart. He was a member of Mineral Springs Baptist Church, a retired employee of McShan Lumber Company with 52 years of service, and a life-long resident of Pickens County.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Pugh, Ronnie Burton, Kenny Cowart, Chris Sullivan, Jason Cowart, and Donald Herrington.
Honorary pallbearers are employees of McShan Lumber Company, employees of Hospice of West Aalabama, employees of Amedisys of Reform, Velma Easterwood and Rose Grandberry.
