Richard Lamar Knox, Sr., age 88, of Aliceville, AL passed away September 13, 2023 at Hospice of West Alabama in Tuscaloosa.  Memorial services will be 11:00 am Monday, September 18, 2023 at Aliceville First Baptist Church with Rev. Charlie Wilson officiating.  Visitation will be immediately following the service at the church.
He was preceded in death by his son, Ronny Vann Knox; his parents; sisters, Blanche Jinks and Jenelle West and brother, Rush Earnest Knox. Jr.
Richard is survived by his high school sweetheart and loving wife of 69 years, Elizabeth Corprew Knox of Aliceville; son, Richard Lamar Knox, Jr. and wife, Susan of Collinsville, MS; two grandchildren, Brian Knox (Sara Wray) of Louisville, MS and Daniel Knox (Sara Fitzgerald) of Collinsville, MS and five great-grandchildren, Lila, Georgia, Cora, Mollie and Russ.
Richard was born February 28, 1935 in Dadeville, Alabama to the late Rush Earnest Knox, Sr. and Virginia Walls Knox.  He was active in all sports at Dadeville High School where he achieved the All-State honor in basketball.  He then joined the United States Navy and served four years aboard ships - primarily aboard flag ship USS Estes AGC-12.  During his service he participated in Operation Redwing and witnessed the first hydrogen bomb test in the Marshall Islands.  After his service in the Navy, Richard began his career with the Alabama Department of Conservation, Game and Fish Division and was assigned to Pickens County in 1960.  He was selected as Outstanding Officer of the Southeastern Association of Game and Fish in 1965 and 1972, belonged to the Riot Control Unit with his department and retired in 1994.
Richard never met a stranger, loved talking with people and was very involved in establishing Pickens Academy.  He was a Mason, loved working in his yard and was a member of Aliceville First Baptist Church.
Pallbearers will be Dean Lewis, Mike Lewis, Jeff Lewis, Joe Lewis, Billy McKinzey and Bill McKinzey.
Honorary Pallbearers are the Sojourners Sunday School Class of Aliceville First Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the Ronny Knox Memorial Fund at Palmer Home for Children, 800 Baldwin Road South, Lake Cormorant, MS 38641 or to the charity of your choice.
