Robert Bruce Doughty, Jr., age 87, of Starkville, MS, died May 3, 2026. Funeral services will be at 3:00 pm Friday, May 8, 2026, at Skelton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Hall officiating. Burial will be in Graham Memorial Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be from 1:30 - 3:00 pm at the funeral home.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Bruce and Lyda Doughty; daughter, Donna Doughty Wynn; sister, Carolyn McAdams (Jerry).
Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Marie Byars Doughty; son, Robert Bruce Doughty III and wife, Debbie; daughters, Mitzi Doughty Hurst and husband, Philip and Susan Doughty Fishel and husband, Sammy; son-in-law, Bobby Wynn; seven grandchildren, Jon Hurst (Liz), Rob Doughty (Allison), Jake Doughty (Marjie), Brittany Dean (Austin), Morgan Scott (Jordan), Anna Hurst and Chad Fishel; thirteen great-grandchildren, Jake, Claire, Walker, Ella, Jolee, Savannah, Robert, Cal, Evie, "J. C.", Weston, Hattie and Mitchell; nieces, Lynn McAdams, Patti Walden, Debbie Whitten, Susie Haugen, Tammy Meier, Sally Dunnam, Cynthia Smelser and Cheryl Hicks and nephew, Bill Dunnam.
He graduated from Pickens County High School and earned a degree in Industrial Engineering from Auburn University, beginning a career with Huyck Felt Company in Aliceville, Alabama. His long and successful career led him to opportunities around the world, including living in Argentina and Australia, before settling in Raleigh, North Carolina. He later retired from Niagara Lockport as Vice President of Operations and moved with his wife, Marie, to Starkville, Mississippi, a place he dearly loved. Though proud of his accomplishments, his family and friends were always most important to him. In Starkville, he enjoyed time with his hunting and fishing buddies, cookouts, family visits, and relaxing on his porch listening to music, as well as many cherished moments at Starkville Country Club.
He will always be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and a steady presence in the lives of those who knew him. Guided by a strong belief in Jesus, he lived with quiet strength, kindness, and love, always putting his family first. His legacy lives on in the values he shared and the memories that will be cherished forever.
Pallbearers will be Rob Doughty, Jake Doughty, Jon Hurst, Chad Fishel, Jordan Scott, and Bobby Wynn.
