Roger Randall "Buddy" Pate, age 81, of Gordo, AL passed away May 10, 2022 at DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Sunday, May 22, 2022 at Skelton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Pat Powell officiating. Burial will follow in Gordo City Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be immediately following the service at the funeral home.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bernon Pate; sister, Melba Wheat (J. C.); brothers-in-law, Frank McDowell and Price Elmore and sister-in-law, Joan McDowell.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Sylvia "Sibbie" Pate; sister, June P. Elmore; sister-in-law, Linda McDowell Hill (Dr. William Hill); brother-in-law, Larry McDowell (Barbara); nieces and nephews, Tony Elmore (Laura Lee), Oscar Pate (Trina), Tina Fike (Michael), Michael McDowell (Heather), Greg McDowell, John McDowell (Rachelle), Vicki Broder (O'Neal), Manda Humber (Terry) and Rebecca Goldsmith (Jim); great-nieces and nephews, Mira, Max, Lucy, Savanah, Dion, Justin, Kori, Hilary, John Caleb, Landon, Gracie, Ben, Jacob, Jason, Jonathan, Matthew, Meredith, Melissa, Michael, Ben and Brian; great-great nieces and nephews, Will Jackson, Hadley and Chandler; a number of cousins and special caregiver, Joann Miller.
Buddy was born January 17, 1941 in Pickens County, Alabama to the late William Harlan Pate and Kittie Dale Shirley. He was a former employee of Gulf States, a retired employee of the City of Gordo Utility Department and a veteran of the United States Army.
Pallbearers will be Oscar Pate, Michael Fike, Tony Elmore, Michael McDowell, Justin Pate, John McDowell, John Caleb Bigham, Landon Fike and Greg McDowell.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to Hospice of West Alabama, 3851 Loop Road, Tuscaloosa, AL 35404 or St. Jude Children's Hospital Memorial Giving, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959 or Gordo First Baptist Church, P. O. Box 323, Gordo, AL 35466.
