MSGT. Roy L. Powell USAF Retired, age 90, of Gordo, AL passed away December 27, 2021 at Park Manor Health & Rehab in Northport. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Thursday, December 30, 2021 at Forest Baptist Church in Benevola with Rev. Jerry Robbins officiating. Burial will follow in Bethesda Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.                                                                                      He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Rebecca Bradshaw Powell; his parents; six brothers, James Boyd Powell, John Howard Powell, William Craft Powell, James Coleman Powell, Jr., Wallace Doyle Powell and Herman Anderson Powell; four sisters, Mary Catherine Powell, Alice Louise Powell, Hattie Marie Powell and Doris Powell and stepson, Alvin Agerton.
Survivors include his sons, David Powell (Angie) and Tim Powell (Alice); four grandchildren, Haley Miller (Christopher), Alison Powell, Zach Powell (Laura), Drew Powell and Paul Agerton; two great-grandchildren, Avery McAteer and Addyson McAteer and sister-in-law, Betty Ruth Schultz (Mayo).
Roy was born March 11, 1931 in Benevola, Alabama to the late James Coleman Powell, Sr. and Hatie E. Craft Powell. A graduate of Aliceville High School, Roy married Alice Rebecca Bradshaw on October 13, 1956 in Columbus, MS. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and the United States Air Force. Roy served in Vietnam and the Philippines and retired on November 1, 1971 at Forbes Air Force Base in Topeka, KS. He was a member of Forest Baptist Church and a former employee of the VA Hospital in Tuscaloosa.
Pallbearers will be Bert Craft, Jimmy Craft, Randy Hall, Zach Powell, Drew Powell and Earl Gates.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the Bethesda Cemetery Fund, 344 Maughan Road, Gordo, AL 35466.
