GORDO – Rev. Dr. Samuel Gene Andreasen, age 88, of Gordo, died February 8, 2016, at his home. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, February 13, 2016, at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Tuscaloosa with Rev. Jerry Douglas and Rev. Edward Spain officiating. Burial will be 2:45 p.m. Tuesday, February 16, 2016, in the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, Ala. with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be Friday, February 12, 2016, from 2 to 4 p.m., at the funeral home in Reform and one hour prior and immediately following the service at the church on Saturday, February 13, 2016.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Rachel Poe Andreasen and his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Pugh Andreasen of Gordo, Ala.; daughter, Cathye Andreasen Price of Birmingham, Ala.; son, Paul Samuel Andreasen and wife, Marcella of Augusta, Ga.; sisters, Ruth Dixon Brown and Alce Croson; and six grandchildren, Paul Samuel Frye Andreasen, Esther Elizabeth Andreasen, Michael Emmanuel Andreasen, Hannah Elizabeth Price, Rachel McPherson Price and Lydia Diane Price.
The Rev. Dr. Samuel Gene Andreasen was born May 7, 1927 in Kearney, Nebraska to the late Fred Andreasen and Esther Gotobed Andreasen. He retired from the United States Air Force after twenty-five years of service as the rank of Colonel. He then served as Staff Chaplain for Partlow Development Center until retirement after twenty years.
Rev. Andreasen served as Pastor of Reform First Presbyterian Church for thirty years and also functioned as an Alabama State Licensed Professional Counselor for over thirty years.
His background education includes degrees from the following: a Bachelor of Arts from Stering College, a Bachelor of Divinity from Columbia Theological Seminary, a Master of Theology from Winona Lake School of Theology, a Master of Divinity from Columbia Theological Seminary and a Doctor of Education from Arizona State University.
Although he served in many civic organizations over the years, he is most noted for service in the following: l. West Alabama Military Officers Association, where he served as a Chaplain on the board for many years, 2. Civil Air Patrol, where he served as Chaplain and 3. Presbyterian Apartments, where he served on the Board of Trustees.
In spite of his numerous achievements, he is best remembered by his loved ones as a person who dedicated his life to God through prayer and loving service.
