February 8, 1941 – March 16, 2024
Sarah Ann Buford, age 83, of Gordo, AL passed away March 16, 2024 at Hospice of West Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Graveside services will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at Cross Roads Baptist Church Cemetery in Gordo with Garry Lawrence officiating and Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will follow the service in the church Fellowship Hall.
She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, James Murray Dillard, Trevna Lorene Dillard, Letha Christine Tilley and Rayvon Dillard.
Survivors include her daughters, Kristie Guin (Terry) and Dana Vails (Harry); brother, Manuel Dillard; five grandchildren, Tyler Vails (Jessica), Cade Vails (Karley), Megan Guin McAteer (Bo), Davis Vails and Kayla Guin; three great-grandchildren, Jase Vails, Jedd Vails and Lula Vails; a host of nieces and nephews and special niece/friend, Margaret Tilley.
Sarah was born February 8, 1941 in Pickens County, Alabama to the late Murray Hobson Dillard and Ellen Lucille O'Bryant Dillard. She was a member of Gordo First Baptist Church and a retired employee of the University of Alabama in the Office of Admissions & Records with 20+ years of service.
Sarah was affectionately known as "MeMaw". She was a strong, independent and faithful follower of Christ. She enjoyed all things her grandchildren participated in. MeMaw was always there when you needed her and put the needs of others before her own. She was so looking forward to the arrival of her fourth great-grandchild in September, Miss Willow Ann McAteer. We love you and will "see you later."
Pallbearers will be her grandsons and Bo McAteer, Cole Patton and James Tilley.
Honorary Pallbearers are nurses and staff at DCH MICU and Hospice of West Alabama.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to St. Jude Children's Hospital Memorial Giving, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
